Assignment 1.3

This image captures a moment of great passion and makes my own adrenaline begin to rush. I like this photo because it summarizes everything I strive to achieve: true happiness and passion in the path I chose to follow. It also holds my dream to travel and watch the Olympics at some point in my life.

Assignment 1.3 "How the Other Half Lives" by Jacob Riis

I learned about Jacob Riis in an episode of a podcast series called "Bowery Boys: New York City History". Riis immigrated to New York in 1870 and lived in the poorest part of the city before finding a job working for a newspaper. He wanted to document the type of life that was either hidden or ignored during that time. In the image below, you can see a cramped alleyway with tenants peering out windows and doorways, laundry hanging over them. The picture is an adequate summary of the squalor of NYC at that time and what Riis was trying to convey.

Assignment 1.3

I like this picture because of the way it's perceived. I love that you focus on the sunflower in the foreground but then it makes your eyes wander to the beautiful sunset of the background. Also having a love for sunflowers, they are all over my apartment, I'm partial to this sunflower picture.

Assignment 1.3

Ever since I was a hockey fan I was an Ovechkin fan.  This photo depicts his dream becoming a reality, and I had been looking forward to this very moment since 2005.

Assignment 1.3

I picked this picture because not only does it depict and action from ice hockey but I can feel and hear the photo itself. It reminds me of all the hours I spent in the rink working on my footwork and starts and stops. It definitely makes me miss skating that much more!

Assignment 1.3

I really enjoyed this image because I think it gives a message. You're able to feel the boys emotions, yet the image has been able to capture how this boy's life has been and is. It makes you feel the pain he could be having as well as his primary needs. It also gives a sensation of hope by showing his flute and what he can come to in the future. The dog and boy shown together also gives a sensation of honesty and humility.

Assignment 1.3

I love this photo due to loving the lake alongside being outdoors. The photo brings peace and tranquility with the sun setting and the tones of color being shown through the picture. I really like how the dock is in the middle and it is leading to the sun and lake.
