This is the picture every sports lover has seen and likely has hanging in their room. Whenever I see the picture I want to get all my friends together for a pickup game. This is my favorite picture.

To me, this is a very soothing and relaxing picture! As summer is starting, I am finally in "lake's country" and I can't wait to see this scene daily. I love the bright colors that this picture has as well as its calming effects. This is one of not only my favorite pictures, but one of my favorite sights. Happy summer to all!
At first, this picture catches your eye because of the wave and it’s unusual, yet extraordinary angle. It made me wonder how someone was able to take it from such a difficult angle. Then, you notice the colors within the wave and its surroundings. The sun is setting behind the wave and its reflection is glowing through the water before it crashes into the dark ocean. To me, it’s the epitome of the perfect summer sunset on the ocean.

Usually I don't like photos with nearly middle-set horizon lines, but I think it does justice for this picture. It has texture, layering, color contrast, mood, pattern, real-life context, and it tells a story. I like that my eye is drawn right to the brightest spot, to the people, the building on the right, then to the smoke and signs, and finally back down to the fire. A little mystery is left to wonder over, since the camera/photo is positioned at the back of the crowd and we can't see what's happening up front. I also like how the smoke is framed a bit by the building, signs, tree, and people.
I just find this to be a really wonderfully eerie picture. Mood is a big part of why I enjoy photography, and conveying a feeling or story is very important to me.

Here is a look at a routine basketball workout done by MSUM point guard Jordan Riewer (Twitter: @JordanRiewer).
I tried to do a variety of portraits, including commercial style portraits of high school seniors, fashion portraits of a few friends of mine, and a couple "working" portraits of my friend who's an illustrator. I also tried to do both indoor and outdoor shots (and various weather conditions) to practice lighting. The locations included an indoor jungle at an apartment building, a graveyard in Moorhead, rural areas near Kindred, ND, woods by Lake Melissa in Detroit Lakes, downtown, and the Fargo skate park.
